The town of Mize is rich in recreational opportunities. The lovely downtown city park beside Clear Creek is complete with picnic tables and a covered pavilion. It is a peaceful place to be. Birds and wildlife are abundant and fun to watch here.

Mize has a summer youth baseball program that is great recreation for kids. Besides physical skills they learn social interaction and teamwork. Summer baseball leagues depend on the goodwill of parents, the good efforts of players and coaches and the good work of interested umpires. This summer Mize will be hosting some regional playoff games.

Lake Ross Barnett reopened in 1997 after draining and restocking. It is one of 24 state fishing lakes operated by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. Fishing for bluegill and largemouth bass is excellent. Two handicapped access fishing piers make fishing from the bank popular. The boat ramp can accommodate boats of all sizes. Sportfishing licenses are required to fish with the exception of July 4. Fishing permits are also required.
Location: Smith County, 2 miles south of Mize off Hwy 35.
Size: 87 acres
Facilities: Boat ramp, 20 camping pads with water and electrical hookups, pavillion, and picnic area with grills.
Skiing: Friday and Sunday noon to sunset.

Mize is a short distance to other lakes in Smith County,and a convenient drive from available attractions in Jackson, also Pearl River Water Resort and casino gaming in Philadelphia MS, onthe Gulf Coast, and in Tunica.
